Rajasthan is a state in northern India. It is located in the western part of the country and is the largest Indian state by area. The state covers an area of 342,239 square kilometres (132,139 sq mi). It is bordered by Punjab to the north, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to the northeast, Madhya Pradesh to the southeast, Gujarat to the southwest, and Pakistan's Sindh province to the west. Its capital and largest city is Jaipur.
Rajasthan is home to three national tiger reserves, the Ranthambore National Park in SawaiMadhopur, Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar, and Mukundra Hill Tiger Reserve in Kota. Other tourist destinations include the cities of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Pushkar, Bikaner, Mount Abu, and Bharatpur. The state is also home to several ancient forts and palaces, including those at Amer, Chittorgarh, Jaisalmer, Jhalawar, and Kumbhalgarh, as well as the only hill station in Rajasthan, which is Mount Abu.
1. HawaMahal, Jaipur : The iconic HawaMahal, or Palace of Winds, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Rajasthan. It was built in 1799 by Maharaja SawaiPratap Singh, and is a unique five-storey building with intricate latticework and windows.
2. Amber Fort, Jaipur : This grand fort is located in Jaipur and was constructed in the 16th century by Maharaja Man Singh. It is made up of red sandstone and marble and is a blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture.
3. City Palace, Udaipur : This is the largest palace in Rajasthan and was built in the 16th century by MaharanaUdai Singh. The palace is a blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture and is situated on the banks of Lake Pichola.
4. Chittorgarh Fort, Chittorgarh : This is the largest fort in India and was built in 7th century by the Mauryan rulers. It is a symbol of Rajput valour and has many monuments, including the Vijay Stambha, Kumbha Palace, and R anaKumbha Palace.
5. Ranthambore National Park, SawaiMadhopur : This is one of India's most popular wildlife sanctuaries and is home to animals like tigers, leopards, sloth bears, and wild boars. It is also a great spot for bird watching.
6. Udaipur's Lake Palace : Located on Lake Pichola, the Lake Palace is one of the most romantic spots in Rajasthan. It was built in 1746 and is now a luxury hotel.
7. JantarMantar, Jaipur : This is one of the five observatories built by Maharaja Jai Singh II and is a popular tourist destination. It consists of a set of astronomical instruments, including the world's largest sundial.
8. Pushkar Lake, Pushkar : This sacred lake is believed to have been created by Lord Brahma and is surrounded by over 400 temples. It is also an important pilgrimage site.
9. BadaBagh, Jaisalmer : This is a beautiful garden located near Jaisalmer and is known for its intricately carved cenotaphs.
10. Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur : Built in the 15th century, this is one of the largest forts in India and is situated on a hilltop. It is also home to many palaces, temples, and galleries.
Rajasthan offers a wide variety of traditional and regional cuisines. These include Dal-Baati-Churma, MawaKachori, Ker Sangri, BikaneriBhujia, PyaazKachori, Panchkuta, GattekiSabzi, MirchiBada, and many more. Rajasthani cuisine is known for its spicy flavour and rich ingredients.
Rajasthani dishes are often flavoured with garam masala, coriander, cumin, fenugreek, turmeric, mustard, and asafoetida. Rajasthani cuisine is also known for its use of dairy products such as ghee, yogurt, and paneer. Milk and buttermilk are often used in curries.
